Concept/Narrative

 

My Animation is about two brothers Alan & Anthony Ward. They are owners of a chain of burger

vans and also are into investing there money in something less legal. It begins how it ends flashing from the brothers mincing and pounding out burgers to them chopping up the other character Carl. Carl is a Mexican drug boss. 

It then goes to a scene were the two brothers are talking while working in the van. Alan tells Anthony that he thinks Carl has screwed them over because the job he set up that they gave money for fell through. But talks are that Carl has still profited from the same job. They call Carl and ask him to come down to the Depot where they park the vans at night. The meet takes place at this Depot which is a dark dirty place. As the brothers clean the vans they discuss what happened and then Alan asks Carl how come you got money back from the job but we didn't. Carl explains that there were two smugglers one to carry his stuff and another to carry theirs. what happened was your guy got freaked and panicked so the security pulled him for being suspicious. Anthony buts-in by saying that's bullshit. he turns to Carl from the back of the van with a huge knife. where is our money Carl I am not messing about here. There is none he says. Alan "we want yours then". Carl "that's not going to happen". Want a bet says Anthony cleaning off the knife. realising there is only one option Carl says "ok ok I will have it brought here". no you wont he says you will sit on that chair and I will go get it myself. tell me where it is. In my safe at home says Carl. well I need the keys then I will bring it all back here and we will half what ever is there and you can be on your way. He arrives back is this the lot he asks. anymore hidden anywhere. Carl "no that's it I swear". Alan "do you believe him?". not really but there is enough here for to do us says Anthony. Carl "Hey, what your not having it all". what are you going to need it for says Anthony as he sticks him with the knife. It ends then with the flashing scene at the start were the brothers are mincing and pounding burgers.

 

My inspirations are from Crime Dramas such as Breaking Bad, Love Hate etc.

its going to be a cartoon like animation and pretty dark and intimidating.

 

 

Technique & Approach

 

The technique and approach I am going to take with this animation is going to be hand drawn images scanned into Photoshop and illustrator to be re-worked and create the final images which I will then take into after affects to animate.

my transitions will probably cut from one to the other.   

 

 

Aesthetic/Mood Board

 

This is the work of Patrick Browne. this is the style I would like to use in my animation its like a two tone style with shadow which I feel is very effective and makes the cartoon like figures more realistic instead of flat.

text will be handwritten like the names in the above pictures.

 Audio

 

Audio will be voice overs for the characters done by myself and possible another willing classmate.

sound effects will be used, the sound of deep fat fryers kitchen utensils etc.

Sequence of Events/Shot list

 

The opening shot will be from the point of view of one the brothers flashing to and from the murder scene. going to a low down shot looking up at the brothers both working in the van cutting to them talking, cutting back and forth. when they get to the depot its going to be over shoulder shots cutting back and forth.. some shots like these below..

 



Recce

 

We were required to go out and look for places that we could

photograph as reference for our animation.. I

listed things that I was going to document.. I wasn't very successful in what I needed to get as restrictions occurred and I could not gain access to a warehouse..

The list of things I wanted to get were:

 

• Shots from inside and around a warehouse/Factory.
• Burger Van

 

Here are some images I managed to get.

 

 

to get these images I had to climb a tree as to get into

this place would be illegal I would imagine and I wasn't running the risk of

being arrested..

I decided to redo my poster after looking at many movie posters.

After observing these posters I decided my layout wasn't the best so I planned

out how I wanted it to look.. here is some reference images..

 

 

 

from looking at these I discovered the main character

is near enough always the largest scale in the poster

the title is at the bottom of the poster and there is sometimes a witty line at the top.

 

so I sketched a plan and made my poster

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Life Drawing.

This morning was life Drawing class, 1st class back after Christmas and we

were studying the female figure but not what we saw we had to visualise were her spine, ribs and were aligned and go from there.

New Poster

I have went back and done my poster again as I have changed

the story a bit and the characters. Here is the poster in comparison to the other.

 

 

I have added to more vans because I have decided that it would b more

in my favour to make it a garage for the burger vans which the two men in the poster own.

also added some blood to show there will be blood in this story but from who..

I decided to write the title in chips to fit with the food theme.
